Where the Inference Goes Beyond the Text

Ephesians 4:4 really says there is one body. First Corinthians 1 condemns party spirit. Romans 16:16 really says “churches of Christ.” But that plural description of congregations belonging to Christ does not identify a later movement's proper name as the exclusive boundary of Christ's body.

First Corinthians 12:13 says the one body is formed “by one Spirit.” The question is whether a person is in Christ, not whether a church sign reproduces a particular phrase.

The New Testament absolutely presses unity in Christ and condemns factional pride. First Corinthians 1:10– 13 is a real rebuke of party spirit. Ephesians 4:4 says there is one body. Those truths should stand.

Where the argument outruns the text

The booklet moves from “one body” to the conclusion that one modern restorationist stream uniquely reproduces that body. That conclusion is not contained in Romans 16:16, Ephesians 4:4, or 1 Corinthians 1:10. The phrase “churches of Christ” in Romans 16:16 is a plural description of congregations belonging to Christ, not the registration of a later denominational proper name.

1 Corinthians 12:13 — “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” The one body is created by God’s Spirit, not by a modern label. A local church can be faithful or unfaithful, and believers should seek biblical churches, but the text does not authorize the inference “our restoration movement is the one body because our sign says church of Christ.”
