Why this wording matters: Sin is said not to be inherited; Psalm 51:5 is glossed as being born “into a sinful world.” Original booklet p. 30 POSSIBLE, BUT DISPUTED The booklet is right that Ezekiel 18:20 denies transferring a father’s personal judicial guilt to the son in the setting addressed there. It is also right that personal sin involves real moral culpability. But it overstates when it inserts an explanatory parenthesis into Psalm 51:5 as though the text itself said “into a sinful world.” Psalm 51:5 — “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” Romans 5:12–19 must also be considered because Paul connects Adam’s disobedience with the condition of the many. Christians disagree over inherited guilt, corruption, and age/accountability questions. This answer need not settle that debate because the baptism question does not depend on it. WHAT THE TEXT CLEARLY SAYS

Ezekiel 18:20“The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father...”

Scripture holds people responsible for their own sin. James 1:14–15 traces temptation, lust, sin, and death. Mark 10:14 treats little children as fitting examples of those to whom the kingdom belongs.

WHAT MUST NOT BE ASSUMED

The Bible does not give a universal numerical “age of accountability.” Nor should Psalm 51:5 or Romans 5 be dismissed without exegesis. This issue should not be used as a shortcut for the separate baptism question.
