So Jesus' baptism does not help the water-salvation case. It hurts it. If you make Jesus' baptism your pattern, you have just proved that baptism is not about washing away sin, because the One being baptized had no sin.
You have proved that baptism can be a righteous act of obedience and identification with no removal of guilt involved at all. That is exactly what this teaching has said baptism is for the believer, obedience and public identification, not the cause of eternal life.
The sinless Son was baptized to fulfil the Father's will and to stand with the people He would redeem. The believer is baptized to obey his Lord and to confess the Christ who already saved him. Neither one turns the water into a savior.

WHAT WOULD HAVE TO BE TRUE
The argument must prove that John’s water itself produced repentance, remission, or regeneration, and then prove that the same causal function carries unchanged into Christian baptism.
START WITH THE BIBLE TEXT
Key control passages: Matthew 3:13-15, 1 Peter 2:22, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, Matthew 3:16-17
The governing teaching for this objection is Matthew 3:13-15 — Why Jesus Was Baptized. Read the actual biblical foundation before letting the objection redefine the terms.
John Knew Something Was Different
The first thing in the passage is John's resistance. John forbad him. The man whose whole ministry was baptizing would not baptize Jesus until Jesus insisted.
I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? John knew who Jesus was, and he knew what his own baptism was for. John's baptism was the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
He had been calling guilty Israel to repent. Now the spotless Son of God steps into the line, and John pulls back, because Jesus had nothing to repent of and no sin to remit. If anyone in that crowd did not need John's baptism, it was Jesus.
That alone should stop the argument. Whatever Jesus' baptism was, it was not a sinner washing away his sins, because Jesus had none.
Jesus Had No Sin to Wash Away
Scripture is plain about this. "Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth" (1 Peter 2:22). "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin" (2 Corinthians 5:21).
If baptism removes sin, whose sin did the water remove at the Jordan? None. The sinless One was baptized, and no sin was washed away, because there was none.
His baptism cannot mean what they need every baptism to mean.
What Fulfil All Righteousness Means
Then comes the line they lean on. Thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Notice the word us.
Jesus does not say, thus it becometh every sinner to be baptized in order to be saved. He says it becometh us, Himself and John, to fulfil all righteousness in that moment, by John baptizing and the Son submitting.
It was right, in God's appointed plan, for the forerunner to baptize and for the Son to be baptized.
This was Jesus identifying Himself with the people He came to save, taking His place among them, and stepping publicly into the ministry the Father had given Him. It was an act of obedience to the Father's will, not the announcement of a universal condition for eternal life.
To fulfil all righteousness here is to do the whole will of God in that hour. It is not a lesson that water is the doorway every sinner must pass through to be forgiven.
Conclusion
The Final Word
The Lord Jesus honored baptism by submitting to it, and the believer should honor it too. But Jesus did not go down into the Jordan to have sin washed away, and He did not say a single word making baptism the price of eternal life.
He came to fulfil all righteousness, to do the Father's whole will, and to be marked out from heaven as the beloved Son. His baptism sends every eye to Him. This is my beloved Son.
Believe on Him, and you have life. The water at the Jordan did not make Jesus the Son, and water cannot make a sinner God's child either. Christ saves.
Water does not.
KEEP THE BIBLE’S CATEGORIES CLEAR
Relation is not causation. A rite can stand “unto” or “for” a response, confession, or announced remission without the preposition alone identifying water as the efficient cleanser.
THE STRONGEST ARGUMENT — AND WHAT IT ACTUALLY PROVES
Grant that John’s baptism was from heaven, was real water, was serious, and stood in close relation to repentance and remission language. Acts 19 still requires the reader to distinguish John’s preparatory baptism from later Christian baptism.
Bible Check: Even after granting that point, does the passage actually say that the believer lacks eternal life, remission, justification, sonship, or the Spirit until the water act occurs? If that sentence is missing, the system still has to supply the causal step rather than read it from the page.
WHAT THE TEXT DOES NOT PROVE
The authority of a rite does not prove the element has saving power. Nor does a preposition by itself settle the theological mechanism.
BOTTOM LINE
NOT PROVED BY THE TEXT AS A SAVING-CAUSATION CLAIM — the objection may contain a true observation, but the stronger conclusion must be proved from the text.
The core reading must stand even if a disputed lexical, historical, or theological support is removed. The burden remains on the stronger claim to show its saving mechanism in the inspired text.

FOUNDATION: Matthew 3:13-15 — Why Jesus Was Baptized
Prepare ye the way of the Lord.
Read the account, and it says the opposite of what they want.
Matthew records it:
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. (Matthew 3:13-15)
Jesus was baptized to fulfill the Father's righteous purpose and identify with the mission before Him, not because the sinless Son needed regeneration or forgiveness.
